ASUU appeals to Buhari over varsity teachers’ plight

University of Ibadan

• APC lauds workers
University teachers have appealed to the Federal Government to address the dearth of facilities and shortfall in personnel in the country’s public universities.

Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Ibadan (UI) Chapter, Dr. Deji Omole accused the present administration of insensitivity to the plight of workers.

Specifically, the union alleged that government has defaulted in the agreements it signed with ASUU in 2009 and 2013, stating that academic staff in the nation’s universities are enduring the worst of welfare and lack of attention.

The ASUU chief warned that the country may suffer another brain drain if the poor condition of service is not improved upon.

Omole pointed out that if lecturers' welfare and salaries are paid in full with adequate teaching facilities, they would be able to complete globally.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday enjoined Nigerian workers to continue to support efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to better the lives of the citizenry.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party thanked the workers for their support in the ongoing task to build a new Nigeria and bring about the change much desired by the masses.
