The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Mr. Yusuf Dutse, has called on the Federal Government to step up funding of polytechnics in the country for better technological advancement.
Dutse made the call at the ongoing 6th national conference of ASUP, with the theme, ‘Economic recession, corruption and the challenges of good governance in Nigeria: The role of tertiary education.’
Dutse lamented that polytechnic education get the lowest funding amongst tertiary institutions in the country, adding that if properly funded, polytechnic education would boost technological advancement in the country.
“Our equipment are obsolete because of poor funding. The government needs to update and initiate policies that will fix the polytechnic with global practice,” Dutse said.
Chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of the union, Mr. Useni Paul, called on the state government to pay retirees of tertiary institutions their gratuity and pension.
